There are 12 zodiac signs, each its own specific traits, desires and attitude towards life and people. By analysing the projection of the position of planets, the Sun, Moon on the Ecliptic at the moment of birth astrology can give us a glimpse of a person's basic characteristics, preferences, flaws and fears. Each of the zodiac signs belongs to the four elements - water, fire, air and earth. I want to keep these shoots minimalistic so I won't go to the extent of attempting to show the elements within the photographs however, I will use the elements to inspire the colour schemes and the details of my shoots. The water signs are exceptionally emotional and ultra-sensitive. They are highly intuitive and they can be as mysterious as the ocean itself. Water signs love profound conversations and intimacy. They rarely do anything openly and are always there to support their loved ones. The Water Signs are: Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. The earth signs are “grounded” and the ones that bring us down to earth. They are mostly conservative and realistic, but they can also be very emotional. They are connected to our material reality and can be turned to material goods. They are practical, loyal and stable and they stick by their people through hard times. The Earth Signs are: Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. The fire signs tend to be passionate, dynamic, and temperamental. They get angry quickly, but they also forgive easily. They are adventurers with immense energy. They are physically very strong and are a source of inspiration for others. Fire signs are intelligent, self-aware, creative and idealistic people, always ready for action. The Fire Signs are: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. The air signs are rational, social, and love communication and relationships with other people. They are thinkers, friendly, intellectual, communicative and analytical. They love philosophical discussions, social gatherings and good books. They enjoy giving advice, but they can also be very superficial. The Air Signs are: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.
Origin of the Chinese Zodiac:
Legend has it that one day the gods ordered that animals be designated as signs of each year and the twelve that arrived first were selected. Similar to the ten heavenly stems and twelve earthly branches, animals in Chinese zodiac were also created for counting years as the system that is now universally accepted based on the Gregorian calendar. The selection and order of the animals that influence people's lives very much was originated in the Han Dynasty (202BC – 220AD) and based upon each animal's character and living habits. The old-time division was mostly related to number 12: one ji equals 12 years, one year has 12 months, one day has 12 time periods called shi chen. Ancient people observe that there are 12 full moons within one year. So, its origin is associated with astrology. Each animal sign is usually related with an earthly branch, so the animal years were called Zi Rat, Chou Ox, Yin Tiger, Mao Rabbit, Chen Dragon, Si Snake, Wu Horse, Wei Sheep, Shen Monkey, You Rooster, Xu Dog and Hai Pig.

Cait Gibbs
This style of photography is ultimately my favourite style and moreover, is the reason I choose to do Hidden Worlds as a component. The masks could represent so many things, the characteristics of the people wearing them such as their zodiac signs - as I will be focusing on for this unit -imilar traits that both they and the animal may share or simply for the aesthetics of the photograph as majority of the shots seem like still frames from a horror movie or even for anonymity at a party or before a criminal act. The suggestions are endless and that's what leaves the audience admiring the photographs for hours and them wanting to see more. The mood overall, is quite creepy but thrilling because of all the questions that pop into your head as you're going through these images. The people are captured doing habitual things that would be boring if captured without the masks but that tiny modification leaves a polar opposite reaction. Another quality of the photographs that may add onto it's eeriness is the fact that the photographs are in monochrome as it makes you imagine this coming from a different era. The image that had the biggest effect on me is of the couple on the bench, the masks seem to fit them so perfectly that the photograph almost comes out authentic and natural, a statement that completely contradicts the reality of it.

Charlotte Caron
French Photographer, Caron blends art into her photographs. A unique outlook, the faces of animals have been painted over the faces of people sitting in ordinary positions. If I were to recreate this photographers work, I would like for there to be more movement within the frame to have it look like it's filling a missing piece on a story board. In order to understand the mood of the photographs for these, however, you would need to understand the characteristics of each animal that is presented and then you may suggest that the person shares these characteristics and thats why that specific animal is representing them. The art itself isn't as realistic as could be all that adds onto the appeal of these photographs and requires a similar technique to double exposure editing as the pictures have been merged.
